Skywards | The Winner 2010 | Winner Blue ,Kambiz sabri |

Artworks created by Iranian sculptor Kambiz Sabri won in the contest for redesigning membership cards for Emirates Airlines’ frequent flyer program Skywards in 2011.
Three art items are selected in each color-coded brief of the contest namely Blue, Silver and Gold “to reflect the membership tier and mood of the theme to be interpreted” as the contest’s website reported.
Sabri’s work “Rain”, which features enlarged rain drops in space surrounded by a cube, has been selected in the Blue brief section. The Green Art Gallery Dubai Director Yasmin Atassi, who was a jury member, believed that Sabri’s work “signifies the essence of Skywards in its originality and modern interpretation”..
The winning artworks replace the designs of renowned contemporary artists like Damien Hirst on membership cards. The artists’ names are being displayed alongside their work on the card and will be seen by Skywards’ members in over 236 countries.
The creator of the winning artwork in each brief receives a commission fee of US$5,000 and will have their name and artwork showcased to a global audience.
Each winner also is invited to Dubai to display their winning entry along with selected art work they have created at Art Dubai 2011

Masculine Poetry

Kambiz Sabri at Khak Gallery
6-17 February 2009

Poetry is usually feminine: logic is masculine. But here is masculine poetry in three-dimensional form. Plexiglas raindrops, frozen in cubic space, suspended on a black, immaculate, Perspex stand. The execution is logical and scientific in its perfection but the dream is poetic and surreal. Then there are pillars of woven steel, exploding with shining ball bearings; at once masculine and poetic. It is hard enough to describe a 2D work of art, let a 3D one, which divides and transforms space.

Again, I cannot help but wish for fewer pieces and more meditative space.

Mental Equilibrium, Innate Order In architecture, equilibrium is generally considered to be the balance between loads (weights) and stresses.
In physics, equilibrium is based on the principle of balanced forces. In biology, equilibrium is determined by the number of animals and the amount of plant production.
In the arts however, equilibrium is a visual concept and resultant of integration of factors such as weight, stress, strain and stability (the term stability has found its way into the arts from physics and engineering).
An artist perceives these phenomena through the senses.

All persons have experienced a period of instability as a child with their bodies and minds and therefore react negatively to any signs of disequilibrium, when reminded of that phase.“Symmetry” is the most simple and accessible form of equilibrium, with an intrinsic appeal, which undoubtedly results from the natural symmetry between the two sides of the body...
